Tips on Securing Sponsors
We all seek sponsors, whether for events, workshops, conferences, activities or services. The business community is glad to oblige – just keep in mind that there has to be a good fit or both parties to mutually benefit from the investment of the sponsor. Most business will state clearly on their Websites or in their annual reports what exactly they like to support in the community: kids, education, cultural activities or otherwise.

First Lady Inspires Giving at Community Action Event
Community Action hosted its 15th annual Celebration of Community Spirit Awards Banquet on May 9th at the Oregon Zoo. The event recognizes businesses and partners who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to the organization and its mission to help low-income families thrive. Background Checks Could Result in Discrimination
The EEOC found that Pepsi’s background check policy discriminated against African American job candidates. Pepsi’s old policy screened out applicants who had been arrested but never convicted, applicants convicted for minor offenses, and applicants convicted decades earlier. The EEOC found that the policy violated Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which prohibits any form of employment discrimination based on race, gender, national origin, and other protected categories. Though the policy itself was not necessarily meant to be discriminatory, its use effectively resulted in discrimination. EEOC/Pepsi settlement and how it could affect your hiring policies.

As many nonprofits continue to struggle to find adequate funding and resources, strategic collaboration with another organization can provide a way to pool assets and support – rather than compete with – one another.
